About My Dobermans
About my Dobermans
Hi everyone! Thank you for reading all about my Dobermans. They truly do make my life whole. I hope you enjoy reading more about them here.
Let’s see, what might you want to know? I’ll start with the basics. Cash is a male Doberman. He is 5 years old (born in 2004). Vega is a female Doberman. She is 3 years old (born in 2006). They are both black and rust. Cash weighs around 95 pounds, and Vega weighs around 65 pounds. As you can tell by the pictures, they have grown in stages. Different Dobermans mature at different times. Some don’t fully mature until three and four years of age while others never seem to go through the lanky puppy stages at all. Cash and Vega are good friends and enjoy each other’s company. They do love each other. No, they will not be making puppies together. Thanks to modern veterinary technology, Cash and Vega puppies would be absolutely impossible.
Both Dobermans are very good dogs and we take them in public often. We spend a lot of time socializing them. As puppies, with this breed, it is very important to socialize them as much as you can. It is important they get out and about each day with their owners and learn about their world. Cash and Vega are our cherished pets and good companions above all else. Cash and Vega have both taken puppy kindergarten and taken various levels of obedience classes. They have also been involved in agility and conformation classes. They both do have titles and are working on more. I want to take a moment to say the bond you form and the lessons you learn about your dogs when training and showing is very rewarding! Dobermans love staying active and having a “job” to do that will stimulate them mentally and physically. This breed is an active breed and very intelligent. Naturally, they excel in training classes. Classes are beneficial for both the owner and the dogs and pay off for many years to come.
Are you still reading? Want to know more? Let me think of other things you might want to know about these two Dobermans.
Cash is our Energizer Bunny. The boy never wants to stop. He keeps going and going, whenever everyone else is worn out, Cash can and will still go ten thousands miles. Are you training for a marathon as you are a natural born runner? Well then Cash is your kind of dog! He requires daily good runs for daily happiness; he helps us all lead a healthier lifestyle. He has a very high prey drive; training him to walk on a loose leash nicely was all about channeling his drives and focus. He is very intelligent; too smart for us own good at times. He is a very fun and silly boy! He is our water dog, as he loves to swim in natural bodies of water. He is a people dog and loves to meet and greet and be with his people at all times. He is extremely outgoing, as the world is his oyster. He gives kisses freely and why not, he has a lot of love to give and what friendly person wouldn’t want big sloppy Doberman Cash kisses? He will also lean on people and let them rub his butt. He wants to be in on all the action at all times. He is a ready and willing worker with a very high work ethic once you can channel his endless drive and enthusiasm. You have to be interesting and work to keep his attention.
He is loyal to his family and plays favorites big time. Sometimes he reads minds and he certainly understands English. He has rock solid confidence and is very watchful. He likes to make people laugh, he will oftentimes roll on his back just for attention, which of course, we lavish on him immediately for being so goofy. He likes to carry things in his mouth; personal favorites of his are sticks and toys, smaller round stuffy toys are ideal. He loves treats. Hiking is one of his favorite things. He sits like a person on the couch with his butt sitting on the cushion! He will also sit in the car like a person, prompting many comments from the public. He sits up high and proud. Food is his passion in life, only equal to tracking! He loves to track and use that nose. Oh, and after playing! He loves a good rumble. He has food allergies so is on a specific diet of duck based high quality kibble with no additives. For treats he can tolerate one brand of natural cheese treats. His nails grow slow so we only have to his nails to keep them short once every two weeks, but we usually do them once a week anyway. He was born with an undescended testicle.
Vega is our Love Bug. She is also loyal and sweet to her chosen ones and loves to cuddle all the time and be so sweet! She is all about her people. She is a very fun girl! She wags her tail a million miles per hour and is a very happy camper. She has rock solid confidence. She is very daring. She has a very steady proper even temperament. She is not hyper or high strung. She is up for anything and everything and loves to be with her people and anywhere and everywhere. She loves to travel and sits up like a person in the car, observing her world. Her favorite place to go in the car is the bank, because they give her treats and make a fuss over her. She loves attention and is outgoing, she doesn’t give kisses, but she does like to lean and accept their love. She also plays favorites. She also has high prey drive, but her prey drive is easier to channel and focus. She is very intelligent. She does love treats but she loves to play even more! Playing with other dogs rocks her world, big or small dogs and even cats make great friends. She lives to fetch and will play fetch all day long. Sometimes we use two toys for double the fun. Kong Wubbas, frisbees, Jolly balls, Flying Squirrels are four favorites. Oh and she loves her rings toy! A good game of tug with her rings is just the best thing in the world. She likes to win but if she does win will come back and want you to play again, over and over and over again. Did I mention she likes rings? She will play rings all day if you are willing. She is a big time toy and bones dog and she even likes cat toys. She will also roll on her back to be a silly girl. She is very alert and observant. She loves to pose for pictures and will pose when she sees the camera. Hiking is one of her favorite things. She likes bodies of water and doesn’t mind getting in for a soak. She is a ready and willing worker and has a high work ethic. She loves to please and is obedient. She has a rock solid tummy and loves to try new foods all the time. She gets a lot of different types of treats. She likes to help feed the reptiles in the morning, where she gets all sorts of yummy raw fruits and vegetables. In addition to a high quality grain free kibble, she is also is on a homemade diet, where she gets fresh real whole foods fed to her daily. Her nails grow faster than any dog nails we have ever seen, prompting dedicated nail sessions more than once a week. She was born with a cowlick.
I think I covered just about everything you could want to know about my Dobermans. Thanks for reading and hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing about them! I think they are the best dogs in the world, but then again, I am quite biased! Might be better to say they mean the world to me and bring me happiness every day.
I want to quickly add that this breed may not be for everyone, but they are for me and there are many others like me in this world. I grew up with Dobermans and always want to have a Doberman by my side. I am not alone in these thoughts. I feel a need to educate others about how wonderful this breed can be and my dogs do a good job being ambassadors for their breed when in public. I sometimes get very concerned because there is a lot of bad press, stereotyping, and uniformed negativity against this breed by people who are personally uneducated about the breed. Dobermans are one of the smartest of all dog breeds. They are very versatile. This breed acts successfully and faithfully as Search and Rescue dogs, Therapy dogs, Service dogs, Police dogs in law enforcement, Guide dogs, Family pet dogs, Freestyle dogs, top scoring Obedience dogs, top scoring Agility dogs, Rally Obedience dogs, Tracking dogs, Show dogs, and have even served faithfully in our military for in Guam, giving their lives for the service of this country, and this is just a partial list of how versatile this breed is and of the activities they do and do well. They are highly trainable and have bettered many people’s lives, they have saved lives through S&R (Search and Rescue) and their Service work among other things, and have directly bettered our country with their military service. They were at 9/11 and the OKC bombing helping with the recovery efforts. There are disabled people who use Dobermans every single day to be able to function successfully in this world. They directly depend on their Dobermans as Service dogs and their Dobermans do a wonderful job in this role. Furthermore, Dobermans also make great companion dogs for families, as they are highly devoted to their people.
Breed specific legislation is a very real threat for all Dobermans. Breed banning legislation would give someone else the right to take away my well-loved stable happy Dobermans, even though my dogs have never done anything wrong. Outright banning of a breed is not an answer. Penalizing responsible dog owners is not an answer. There is no reason that states and counties should be proposing breed bans to take away this wonderful breed from Doberman lovers. Next time you hear someone stereotyping Dobermans negatively, please remember Ban the Deed, Not the Breed. |
